Guidance
For students entering prior to 2000-2001:

English: 20 credits (four years)
Mathematics: 15 credits (three years)
Science: 10 credits (two years)
Social Studies: global Studies - 5 credits (one year) and United States History - 10 credits (two years)
Visual/Performing/Practical Arts: 5 credits 9one year)
World Languages: 0 credits
health & Physical Education: 20 credits (four years); 2 1/2 credits in Health, and 2 1/2 credits in Physical Education per year;

*There is no state-mandated credit requirement. However, students must take health/physical education each year they attend high school.

For Freshmen entering during the 2000-2001 school year:
In addition to all of the above requirements, 5 additional credits (one year) in science must be earned, making a total requirement of 15 credits (three years).

For Freshmen entering during and after the 2001-2002 school year:

In addition to all of the above requirements, 5 additional credits (one year) in visual/performing/practical arts must be received, making a total requirement of 10 credits (two years). Also, a total of 10 credits (two years) in world languages must be earned as well.

*Note: In addition to all of the above course requirements, students must also pass the High School Proficiency Test, receive a total of at least 110 credits overall (as of 2000-2001), and meet the Board-mandated attendance requirement in order to be awarded a diploma.


Grading Scale and GPA Calculations:

All high schools in the Camden City School District should be on 4.0 GPA weighing system:

•A = 4.0
•B = 3.0
•C = 2.0
•D = 1.0
•F = 0.0

All Honors and AP courses in the Camden City School District should receive a weight of 1:

•A = 5.0
•B = 4.0
•C = 3.0
•D = 2.0
•F = 00

The following courses should also receive a weight of 1:

•Computer Science Q Basic
•Computer Science C++
•Third & Fourth year of all language
•Analytical Geometry/Calculus
•Trigonometry
•Biochemistry Research
•Physics/Modern Physics
•Marine Science

All remedial course in the Camden City School District should receive a weight of - 0.25:

•Reading including ESL Reading
•Math Lab including ESL Math Lab

Calculation of GPA for college transcripts:

•Juniro GPA x 6 add Senior Semester GPA / 7


Promotion Requirement 9-12

In order to move from one homeroom level to a higher homeroom level (i.e. grade level), students in grades 9-12 are required to pass course requirements as determined by a credit system. the number of credits earned is determined by the number of periods a class is held each week. A student must earn the following credits in order to advance to the next grade:

•10th grade - 27 1/2 credits
•11th grade - 55 credits
•12 th grade - 82 1/2 credits
•Graduation - 110 credits


Honor Roll

The Camden City District Honor roll serves as a means to recognize distinguished achievement in areas of study reflecting good classroom work and citizenship within the students' own level of achievement. In addition to achieving a "B" average (3.0 on a 4.0 scale), the following categories and criteria apply for achieving honor roll status per marking period.

Principal's List: ALL "A's" on a report card
Honor Roll: Comination of only "A's" and "B's" on a report card
Merit List: Combination of "A's", "B's" and only one "C"

*It should be noted that a grad of "C" in a 10 credit course counts as two "C's" on a report card.
